Sedation Dentistry
Why Sedation?
You no longer have to fear going to the dentist because there are several options to relieve anxiety and discomfort.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
It is a type of dental procedure designed for patients with dental anxiety. It allows us to treat several dental issues while you sit comfortably.
Complex procedures like extraction, oral surgery, or root canal are often painful and uncomfortable. Therefore, if you are anxious to undergo such treatments, we recommend sedation dentistry.
Types of Sedation:
1. Mild Sedation
For those with mild anxiety or patients undergoing long or complex dental treatments, we recommend mild sedation. Mild sedation is oral sedation, and it is the lightest sedation level. Since it is mild sedation, the patient will stay awake during the procedure. But it’s also normal to feel sleepy but relaxed.
The recovery time is within hours after the procedure.
2. Moderate Sedation
Moderate sedation is the most widely used method, and it helps ease mild to moderate dental anxiety. The patient inhales nitrous oxide (laughing gas) through a small mask via their noses. This is provided in addition to the sedative drug that is usually called the Diazepam group. It calms anxiety and helps increase your pain tolerance level while creating an illusion that time passes quickly.
After the treatment, patients go back to regular breathing with oxygen, and the effects of the laughing gas dissipate. As such, you don’t need to postpone or delay normal activities.
Benefits of Sedation Dentistry:
Sedation dentistry offers several benefits, such as;
- Sedation eases dental anxiety.
- Time seems to pass quicker while sedated.
- Sedation increases your pain tolerance.
In other words, it allows a simple, relaxing, and comfortable experience during your dental procedure.
