Wisdom Teeth Extraction Surgery
For many of our patients, the need to have their wisdom teeth removed is often necessary. To help you understand the process, we have outlined the reasons for wisdom extraction here and are always available by phone to answer any of your questions. Wisdom teeth are the hindmost molars in your mouth or the third set of molars that often appear between the ages of 17 to 25. Some people may have all four teeth that need to be removed, while others will only need a few taken out. There can be several different reasons that wisdom teeth need to be extracted, including:
1. Infection due to a deep cavity
2. When a wisdom tooth is partially impacted (covered by bone or gum tissue), it can cause a cavity or damage to the neighboring tooth.
3. they may come in at the wrong angle and be affecting your other teeth, causing crowding or crocking
4. May cause gum inflammation around the tooth (pericoronitis) due to food getting stuck between the wisdom tooth and gum tissue around it.
About the Procedure :
The good news is that wisdom teeth extraction surgery is not a long surgical procedure. The surgery typically takes 45 minutes or less, depending on the case. Dr. Altalib will offer different sedation options and the local anesthetic medicine, which must be given in any extraction procedure. These options include laughing gas and mild or moderate sedation to ensure you will be completely relaxed while performing the work. Again, this will be something you and Dr. Altalib decide upon together before the procedure.
